This project involved the refurbishment of the existing library, break out and meeting spaces within the existing two-level library at AIMS, Townsville.

Connectivity between floor levels was required to create an open space and link the two floor levels.  This was achieved by upgrade of the existing solid balustrade around the atrium to a glass and stainless-steel handrail system and inclusion of statement lighting to create a focal point.

Open format meeting and gathering spaces were used to encourage communication and group exchange of ideas.  Interactive monitors were supported from a curved frame that contained concealed LED lighting allowing display of current research projects and experiments.

A new café was constructed to enhance the open meeting space and promote group interaction with the intention of fostering open forums between researchers, workers, students and visitors.
